Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, also known as the oriental weatherloach, is distributed throughout China and occurs principally in the Yangtze River basin (Chen, 1984; Feng et al., 2024).Due to its superior nutritional value and excellent flavor, this acclaimed loach is widely consumed, and is a favorite in the East Asia region. Webboriental weatherloach, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus,in Sado Island of Japan was elucidated by phylogeo-graphic analysis based on partial mitochondrial control region sequences. The specimens were sam-pled at 62 sites in Sado Island and 14 sites on the mainland close to the island. We found various haplotypes of different origins, most of which had
