Bohm's theory
WebThe usual interpretation of the quantum theory is self-consistent, but it involves an assumption that cannot be tested experimentally, viz., that the most complete possible specification of an individual system is in terms of a wave function that determines only probable results of actual measurement processes. WebBohm unknowingly rediscovered (and extended) the idea that Louis de Broglie had proposed in 1927 (and abandoned) – hence this theory is commonly called "de Broglie-Bohm theory". Bohm posited both the quantum particle, e.g. an electron, and a hidden 'guiding wave' that governs its motion.

WebFeb 18, 2024 · In this interpretation, the wave is not a physical wave, but a mathematical way to figure out the probability of finding a particle in a certain state. This is in contrast to DeBroglie-Bohm or pilot wave theory, named after Louis de Broglie and David Bohm, also known as Bohmian mechanics. Webwith the conventional kinetic Bohm criterion that is based on a v 1 moment of the Vlasov equation. The salient di erence between the two results is that low velocity particles dominate in the conventional theory, but are essentially unimportant in the new theory. It is shown that the derivation of the conventional kinetic Bohm criterion is awed.
